Flam
We visited Flåm in 2006 and again in 2012. It is a small village at the inner end of Aurlandsfjord and it receives almost 500,000 tourists a year with a harbor is deep enough for the largest cruise ship to pull right up to the dock. Most folks come to enjoy the scenic 20-kilometre Flåm railway between Flåm and Myrdal. It is one of the steepest railway tracks in the world. Along the rail trip you will see beautiful valleys and mountain sides and there is a stop at the Kjosfoss waterfall which is one of the most scenic waterfalls I have seen. When the train stops the “spirit of a druid” will do a graceful dance by a small ruin halfway up the falls. While it is a bit hokey, it was fun to watch. Expect your lens to get water spots as the falls kicks up a lot of spray. We continued up the train to Vatnahalsen where we spent several hours hiking down to Berekvam, then took the train back to Flåm. This is a nice walk, among the mountains and valleys with the occasional goat farms and lots of waterfalls.
