Hagar Qim Temple
We visited Hagar Qim temple in 2004. Hagar Qim is located atop a hill on the southern edge of Malta and was built around 3600 BCE. This is one of the oldest temples on Malta. The entrance leads to an interior passage which connects to six large chambers. There are numerous pedestal altars in the ruins. Archeological excavations revealed burnt offerings and animal sacrifices as part of their rituals. Recesses in the temple were used as depositories for sacrificial remains and ritual artifacts. Much of the artifacts are recreations with the originals in the Museum of Archaeology in Valletta.
