Syracuse
The city of Syracuse is located on the east coast of Sicily and was originally a Greek colony founded by Corinth in 734 BCE. It has been one of major cities in Sicily for almost 3000 years and continues to be today. Syracuse is brimming with incredible history. With multiple archaeological sites and Ortigia, Syracuse's island heart with the Cathedral (a converted Greek Temple), the ruins of the Temple of Apollo, and the Fountain of Arethusa. The central Archaeological Park Neapolis located inland, comprises the Roman Amphitheater, the Greek Amphitheater, and the ancient quarry with the Ear of Dionysius, a limestone cave shaped like a human ear.
