Regensburg
I visited Regenberg in 2008 and found the bratwurst at the historic Wurstkuch'l Restaurant was some of the best I have ever had. The Restaurant is noted as the oldest bratwurst restaurant in the world. It is next to the Salt tower and the medieval Stone Bridge where knights of the 2nd and 3rd crusade crossed the Danube on their way to the Holy Land.
The Gothic St Peter's Cathedral is one of the best examples of Gothic architecture in Germany and the interior is very nice as well. There are remains of the original Roman fortress' walls and tower still visible in current building. There are also towers (Golden Tower, Red Tower, etc.) scattered around the town that the wealthy families build in the medieval age and competed to see who would build the highest tower of the town. The old town hall (next to the new town hall) has measured lengths imbedded next to one of the doors where merchants would verify they are using “standard” lengths for verifing sales. The New Parish Church in one of the town squares is much plainer than the cathedral but is still worth a look.
