Plymouth
I visited Plymouth in 2006. This is where the Pilgrims left England on the ship “Mayflower” for America. There is a stone arch over the “Mayflower Steps” to commemorate this event. Another place to visit is the Plymouth Hoe where the lighthouse (called Smeaton’s Tower) and the Royal Citadel used to protect the ships from the cliffs and the harbor from attack, respectively. There is a very nice Elizabethan house & gardens that are worth a visit. And a walk down through the old port area (called the Barbican) with its many restored old building are fun to look at. Finally there are works from the artist Robert Lenkiewicz both in galleries as well as on building around town.
