Aliaga House
We visited the Aliaga House which is a short walk from Plaza Mayor. It is a private residence that dates back to 1535 and has been occupied by the same family for over 17 generations. Francisco Pizarro who founded Lima on Jan. 18, 1535 gave the plot adjacent to the Government Palace to his trusted friend Jerónimo de Aliaga, so they could be neighbors. It has been renovated over the years, but its among the oldest house in the Americas. The house has amazing wood work, tiles, and furnishings. There was a coal stove from the Paris expositions in the late 1800’s that was an amazing piece of art with the zodiac on top, although without a ceiling vent it would have smoked out the room.
