Puerto Vallarta
We visited Puerto Vallarta in 2016. The Malecon is a seafront walkway that starts at the northern tip of the “romantic zone” of Puerto Vallarta and ends at the iconic arch at the Cathedral of Guadalupe (or La Parroquia de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe) just north of “Old Town”. The church has a huge crown topping the bell tower which was modeled after the crown of Empress Carlotta, who tragically went mad after her husband was executed. The inside is cool which is welcome on a hot day. Along the walk there are bronze statues that are worth spending a few minutes to look at, and buskers doing some pretty impressive sand art along the shore. As you wander south past the church you get into the old town where some of the older building still remain. There is a craft market at the southern end of old town just in from the beach and by the town square that is worth a look. Heading back inland allow you some glimpse into restaurants and interesting buildings that comprise old town.
